When you go to Bali, there are some locations that are so underrated, and one of them is Kintamani. This region is the home of Bali’s second largest volcano called Batur Volcano. If you want to enjoy the other side of Bali Tour other than the beaches, then you need to go to Batur Kintamani Vulcano and enjoy the amazing things you could do there, and here they are.

Sunrise Trekking

Since Kintamani is the home of Batur Kintamani Volcano, the first thing you could do here is obviously trekking, trying to catch the gorgeous view of sunrise from the volcano. Batur Volcano is a stunning masterpiece from nature, formed around 25,000 years ago and stands as high as 1717 M. This is why you need to try sunrise trekking here so you can see the sun rising plus the beautiful sea of orange and pink clouds floating below.

When the sun is fully rising, you don’t have to pack your things in a hurry and get down. You can stay to enjoy and appreciate the views you can see once the clouds clear which are Lake Batur and the endless valley in the lush garden, dotted with small villages. Not only that, on a very clear day, you can even see Lombok Island on the other side of the Bali Sea.

The trekking itself is very moderate and not too challenging so most people should be able to do it. But if you think that trekking is not for you, you can also reach the summit and enjoy the sunrise by vehicles such as a motorcycle and a jeep. If you choose to trek, you should get yourself a Bali tour guide, and the journey will start at around 3 AM and you will get to the summit around 5 AM to enjoy the sunrise.

Enjoy The Batur Lake

Once you see the view of the beautiful Batur Lake from above, you might want to go down there and see it from up close. The lake is shaped like a crescent and filled with gorgeous turquoise blue water. Batur Lake is a popular fishing spot for the locals. You can always enjoy Batur Lake from the surrounding areas such as the balcony of your hotel or villa, but while you’re there, why not enjoy the water?

If you don’t like to swim but are not afraid of water, you can try to explore the lake by yourself using a canoe or a kayak. For a two-person canoe, you can rent it for around IDR 150,000 per hour and then go explore the lake yourself. The best time to do this is between 9 and 11 AM since the wind and current wouldn’t be too strong and make it difficult to paddle and navigate the canoe or kayak.

Hot Springs

Since Mount Batur is a volcano, you may expect that there are some hot springs you can enjoy there, and you are completely right. Batur Kintamani is within a volcanic caldera, so you can find many pools filled with water from the mountain that is heated naturally by the underground magma from Batur Volcano. Imagine being tired after hiking or canoeing around Batur Lake and get your muscles relaxed by the naturally heated water.

There are several most popular hot springs in Kintamani, but probably the most famous one is called Toya Devasya. It is a luxurious place with natural hot springs, a huge and warm swimming pool, and there are even water slides if you want to add to the fun. The fee to enter Toya Devasya is IDR 300,000, but you can get a slight discount by online booking trough us.

Pura Segara Ulundanu Batur

One of the things that makes Bali so famous is the cultural and spiritual aspect. You can find numerous Hindu temples scattered around the island, and you can find one in Kintamani called Pura Segara Ulun Danu Batur. This beautiful temple is floating on the Batur Lake and you can go there by crossing a small bridge.

Pura Segara Ulun is less famous than some other Hindu temples in Bali, and there are rarely ceremonies taking place here, making it perfect for you to enjoy the view and take some pictures. Try to visit this temple at sunrise or sunset so you can enjoy a more beautiful view. With the view of the lake, temple and the sunrise or sunset, Pura Segar Ulun is a very good place to take your Bali honeymoon pictures. You can visit this temple for free, but you need to rent a Hindu sarong before you get in.

Trunyan Cemetery

The next destination you can visit in Kintamani is not for everyone and it’s called The Trunyan Cemetery. If you think a cemetery is a field with tombstones as long as you can see, not here. In Trunyan Cemetery, instead of tombstones, you will see bones and skulls everywhere since this is how the locals bury their dead, unlike most of Balinese who would cremate them.

This is because Trunyan is inhabited by locals called the Bali Aga who are still maintaining their culture and identity of their ancestors before the migration of Hindus from Java. Dead bodies would be washed, dressed, put inside a bamboo cage to prevent animals from eating them, and then the Trunyanese would just lay the dead bodies on the forest floor until they decomposed naturally.

After a dead body is fully dissolved, the Trunyanese would pick the skull and then place it on a rock platform that has been erected nearby so there will be room for a new body. The view of skulls being stacked on rock platforms in the forest is why people also refer to this place as Skull Island Bali. So, if you want a different experience while doing a tour in Bali, Trunyan Cemetery is worth a visit.

There you go, the amazing, unique and unforgettable spots you can visit while you are exploring the amazing Batur Kintamani Volcano.
